Afghanistan. The Two Routes to Kabul via Jalalabad and via the Kuram Valley taken principally from surveys and reconnaissances by officers of the Survey of India, 1878 – 79. Simla, Survey of India, October 1880, 2nd ed. A folding map hand on the scale of 1 inch to 4 miles relief shaded and with rivers and towns hand coloured in blue and pink. Unfolded size 49” x 38”, some loss of intersection (professionally repaired). The map has suffered from not being backed in linen and is one of those hastily prepared maps that were required for the Second Afghan War. Contributions: John Stone, Walker Tanner. The country round Kabul has been taken from the Surveys of Major Garden and Captain Paton in 1839. The map extends to the north with detail considerably beyond Kabul to Istalad and Kushab: in the South – Kabul district; in the West – to about 25 miles west of Kabul; and east – to beyond the Peshawar and Kohat. Rare.
