Helsingissä Kustannusosakeyhtiö Otava, 1990, 1st ed., oblong 4to (26 x 28cm), 151 pp., numerous b/w photo illus., maps on endpapers, dust-wrapper, owner’s bookplate. The book is a selection of photographs taken by Russian Imperial Army Colonel C. G. Mannerheim on his intelligence mission across Inner Asia in 1906 2 1908. The present volume comprises 87 photographs, a significant number of them previously unpublished. Scarce.

Gordon, T. E. The Roof of the World. Being the Narrative  of a Journey Over the High Plateau of Tibet  to the Russian Frontier and the Oxus Sources on Pamir. Edinburgh,  Edmonston and Douglas, 1876, 1st ed., tall 8vo (27 x 19cm), xiv, 172 pp., 24 tinted lithographs, of which one panorama and 4 coloured, and 42 illustrations in the text, folding map of Eastern Turkestan, a small tear professionally fixed, original dark green publisher’s cloth gilt, large gilt Ovis Poli and Ibex horns on rear cover than extend both to front and rear boards, owner’s bookplate. This copy recased with new endpapers but is in remarkably bright, collector condition. All plates are clean and nice, free of foxing.
Narrative of a journey over the high plateau of Tibet to the Russian Frontier and the Oxus sources on Pamir. A classic of Central Asian mountain travel, exploration and big game hunting. The noted explorers Captain Trotter and Captain Biddulph accompanied Gordon. The hunter explorers started from Leg in Ladak and reached the Pamirs, through which they traveled and eventually came into Yarkand. One of the earliest books to mention/describe hunting for Ovis Poli (Marco Polo Sheep and Asian ibex as well as some of the gazelles that inhabit the region. Rare.

Collection was published in 1898 – 1906 in Tashkent by Intelligence Unit of Turkestan Military District Headquarters. Totally were published 85 issues with a print run near 100 copies (in January 1904). Number of published issues per year differs from year to year, and only issues of 1904 - 1906 were published on a regular basis (12 issues per year). In different years, Svedeniia were edited by such well-known Russian military Orientologists as M. V. Grulev, L. G. Kornilov, A. E. Snesarev. The Collection is one of the main sources for the history of Russian military intelligence  in Central Asia and the history of the countries adjacent to Russian Turkestan - Persia, Afghanistan, British India and Chinese Turkestan. Important materials for the history of Anglo-Russian rivalry in Asia (Great Game).Rare. Complete set is not traced in any library in the world.

Alferaki S. N. Kul’dzha i Tian’-Shan’. Putevye zapiski. [Kuldja and Tian Shan. Travel notes]. - Proceedings of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, General Geography Section, Vol. XXIII, № 2. St Petersburg, 1891, 193 pp., boards. S. N. Alferaki, a member of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, in 1879 travelled in Kuldja area. He spent in Kuldja about seven months studying zoology of the area. For the scientific results of the expedition he was awarded a silver medal of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society.
